Barra Grant is a native New Yorker whose mother, Bess Myerson, was the first and to this day, only – Jewish Miss America. Barra drew from their relationship to create her one woman show, “Miss America’s Ugly Daughter” which she performed in L.A. and Off Broadway in NYC. She spent several years as a “script doctor” rewriting and reinventing various major motion pictures. During this time she performed her original short stories throughout Los Angeles, covering topics ranging from death to toiletries.As a filmmaker Barra wrote and directed “Life of the Party” starring Eion Bailey and Ellen Pompeo and “Love Hurts” starring Richard E. Grant and Carrie Anne Moss. Both movies are now streaming on cable. Her play “A Mother, A Daughter, and A Gun” has been performed in L.A., Chicago, and Off-Broadway, starring the late Olympia Dukakis. Her book, a comedic look at childhood depression: “Jane Smith AKA Thistle Fabuloso”, has been published by Smith and Kraus, and is available on Amazon Books. Barra has received the Writers Guild award and was nominated for a Director’s Guild and Humanitas Award. Barra’s favorite production has always been her daughter, the artist Samantha Reilly.
